‘Roger McGough walked in today’ by Hugh Hughes

This Hugh Hughes Roughbook entry is a poem that I wrote about Roger McGough:

Roger McGough walked in today
And asked me what I was up to
Writing I said
What are you writing he asked
Just some stuff I answered
What is the stuff about he asked
It’s not clear yet I said
That’s the best place to be at he said
Not knowing what you’re writing is a real pleasure he insisted
Really I said in dismay
Really he said
It’s when the big surprises can happen
Like me walking into the room
Did you expect that he asked
No I said
Exactly he said
